What Appcues is good at

  • Builds web and mobile in-app experiences, with a dedicated mobile SDK.
  • Includes forms and surveys inside the product to collect user feedback.
  • Triggers an experience from a product event and targets users by their properties.

Where Appcues breaks

  • Every identified user who signs in counts toward your MAU total, whether or not they saw a flow, so cost follows your user count.
  • The Start plan caps you at 10 published experiences and 12 months of reporting history.
  • No prices are published; plans are MAU based and over-limit accounts are contacted about upgrading at the next billing cycle.

When a custom build beats Appcues

When you only need a handful of fixed onboarding steps or a welcome checklist, which your own front end can render for the cost of a few days of work and no per-user fee.
