What ChatGPT dots is good at
- Each dot has its own cloud computer and browser and can connect to over 4,000 apps through ChatGPT plugins; you can open its computer at any time to see what it is doing.
- You reach it in ChatGPT on desktop, web and mobile, or in Slack and Teams, and it carries the same context across all of them.
- Custom rules let you set, per action, whether it acts without asking, acts only if you asked for it, asks first, or hands the step to you; changing a password always stays with you.
- When idle it does "proactive research" through your connected apps with read-only tools that cannot send messages or change app content.
Where ChatGPT dots breaks
- Pro access excludes the EEA, Switzerland and the UK at launch, rollout is gradual, and you can only create a dot in the ChatGPT desktop app or desktop web, not on mobile.
- It reads connected apps proactively and forms memories from them even when you have not asked; disconnecting an app does not delete what the dot already took, only resetting (deleting) the dot does.
- Deeper work runs on a plan allowance, extended only for the first month after launch, and any Codex or ChatGPT Work tasks it starts count toward your normal usage limits.
- On personal plans its conversations and work can be used to improve OpenAI's models unless you change your data setting; Business, Enterprise and Edu content is not used by default.
When a custom build beats ChatGPT dots
When the job is one fixed workflow (for example, chase unpaid invoices every Monday), a scheduled script or a Zapier/n8n flow calling the API costs far less than a $100 a month seat and does exactly the same thing every time.
Setup
No-code. Someone comfortable with spreadsheets can set it up. No code needed.
