The verdict

Both now charge for AI by the resolution, so the bill follows how much the AI handles. Intercom's Fin works across chat, email, voice and social, can run multi-step procedures like refunds, and can sit on top of other help desks; every Fin outcome is billed from $0.99, including assumed resolutions when a customer leaves without asking for more help. Zendesk is the more established ticketing suite, includes a small allowance of automated resolutions per agent (5 on Team plans, 10 on Professional), then charges $2.00 each pay-as-you-go, and reviewers report a learning curve.

If most of your questions are repeat questions answered in a good help center, Fin is built for that. If you need structured ticketing across many teams and channels, Zendesk fits. Model your monthly resolution count before you sign either.
