What Claude Code is good at

  • It runs in the terminal, VS Code, JetBrains, a desktop app and the browser.
  • It works with git directly: it stages changes, writes commit messages, creates branches and opens pull requests.
  • It can run in CI through GitHub Actions or GitLab for automated review and issue triage.

Where Claude Code breaks

  • You hit plan limits: subscription usage has a session limit and a weekly limit shared with Claude chat, and when reached you wait, upgrade or pay for usage credits.
  • Long sessions get expensive: the docs say usage climbs because the full conversation is sent with every request.
  • Nobody reviews its work: the docs state you are responsible for reviewing proposed code and commands before approval.

When a custom build beats Claude Code

When the project needs judgment on architecture, security and product tradeoffs that someone must own, not only code produced faster.
