What v0 (Vercel) is good at

  • It produces landing pages, dashboards and full apps using Next.js, Tailwind and shadcn/ui.
  • It deploys with one click to Vercel hosting.
  • It can open a pull request so a developer can review the change.

Where v0 (Vercel) breaks

  • Usage is heavy: after the May 2025 move to credit pricing, a Vercel community thread said a simple 3 page form cost more than $1 and the $20 plan became impractical.
  • You expect the backend done for you: the docs focus on frontend and say you connect your own APIs and databases.

When a custom build beats v0 (Vercel)

When the hard part is the backend, data model and permissions rather than the screens.
