Where it breaksA Vercel community thread said a simple 3 page form cost over $1 after the move to credits.CVE-2025-48757 found 170+ apps with weak row level security; running out of credits can pause apps.

Best forDesigners and frontend developers who want polished screens to hand off or ship.Non-technical founders who want a clickable prototype with a real database.
A custom build beats it whenThe hard part is the backend, data model and permissions.Real users, payments or private data are involved and someone must own security.

The verdict

Both build from a chat prompt and host what they make. v0 generates React and Next.js interfaces with Tailwind and shadcn/ui, deploys to Vercel in one click and can open a pull request for a developer to review, but its docs leave the backend to you, and some users found credit pricing costly. Lovable builds a working app with hosting, database, storage and realtime included, and scans for exposed data and leaked secrets, from $25 a month on Pro; but a 2025 CVE found 170+ Lovable apps with weak database access rules, and its own docs say you must review those rules yourself.

Pick v0 if you have a developer and want polished screens to hand over; pick Lovable if you are non-technical and need a working prototype with real data, and plan a security review before real users arrive.
