The verdict

Both are low cost API options from labs outside the US, and both have privacy terms you should read before sending client data.

DeepSeek is cheaper per token, $0.15 per 1M input tokens off-peak on deepseek-flash against $0.95 for kimi-k2.6, and has generous concurrency, but stores personal data in China and doubles prices in weekday peak hours. Kimi stores data in Singapore, offers a paid membership app as well as the API, and makes Zero Data Retention available to enterprise customers, but a new API account starts at 3 requests per minute until it recharges $10. For non-sensitive bulk work where cost rules, DeepSeek; if you also want an agent app or need Singapore hosting, Kimi.
