What Smartlead is good at

  • Unlimited mailboxes and unlimited stored leads; plans are priced by sends.
  • Built-in warmup and automatic sender rotation.
  • Large API (the site says 170 actions) and white-label options for agencies.

Where Smartlead breaks

  • You outgrow the send cap: the $39 Base plan allows 2,000 contacts and 6,000 sends a month (pricing page).
  • You need fast help: Trustpilot reviewers (2.9/5 from 140 reviews) report two-day support replies and trouble cancelling.
  • Your domain reputation is fragile: some Trustpilot reviewers say their domains were blacklisted or hurt by bounces after using it.

When a custom build beats Smartlead

Rarely for sending at scale; custom code makes sense on top of its API for routing replies or syncing to your own CRM.
