The verdict

Both have a free plan, a personal paid plan, a team plan and an API. Mistral's Pro is $14.99 a month and includes $15 of API credits, Team is $24.99 per user, Mistral Large costs $0.5 per 1M input tokens, and some models are open-weight under Apache 2.0 so you can host them yourself later; but Vibe trains on your chats by default on Free, Pro and Team unless you opt out. Claude's Pro is $20 a month and Team from $20 per seat billed annually, Team does no training on your content by default, and its API runs from $0.10 per 1M input tokens on Haiku 5.5, but usage runs on rolling five hour windows with weekly caps.

Pick Mistral if price and the option to self-host matter most and you will change the training setting; pick Claude if you want a team plan that stays out of training by default.
